The Crew

Rankin and Sandy (that's us) are the crew for Gypsea Heart.  Together, we have about 30 years of sailing experience not including those dark years of power boating.  At one time, we worked, but it was so, so long ago that we have forgotten exactly what we did for a living.

We are both from Texas, I (Sandy) was transplanted to Houston, Texas around 1985 from St. Louis, Missouri and though this may come back to haunt me I am still a Cardinals fan.  GO CARDS!  Originally from San Antonio, Rankin lived in Texas so long I don't think he can even remember when he arrived.  He is a true southern gentleman, never visits San Antonio without visiting the Alamo, and is proud to announce we have all the Alamo movies ever made.

We left Houston in 2002 and began our sailing adventures.  We spent about eight years cruising around the U.S., the Eastern Caribbean, South America, Bonaire, Curacao, Panama and the Western Caribbean.  During that time, we put 20,000 nautical miles under our keel.   Sure, we have experienced more than one gale, have performed a few anchor dances and even a couple of hurricanes.  However, we have found the cruising lifestyle liberating, adventurous, exhilarating and spectacular.  We have met wonderful cruisers who will be friends for life and have been fascinated by various cultures we've experienced.  This lifestyle has given us a new sense of independence and awareness of our fragile environment which we so adore and appreciate. We now hope to continue our adventures in the Pacific, and hope you will choose to share our new adventures with us.
